Departing from Ol Pejeta’s airstrip near Mount Kenya, the plane climbs gently over the conservancy’s sweeping plains, offering a final glimpse of elephants, rhinos, and giraffes moving across the golden savannah. As you ascend, the majestic snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya dominate the eastern skyline, glowing brilliantly in the morning light.

Below, you’ll see scattered villages and lush coffee and tea estates before the land suddenly falls away into the dramatic depths of the Great Rift Valley. From this bird’s-eye view, the landscape is a natural wonder — ancient escarpments, volcanic ridges, and shimmering lakes stretching toward the horizon.
Soon, the emerald-green forests surrounding Lake Nakuru come into sight, and the lake itself appears — a brilliant mirror of blue and pink, where flamingos gather in sweeping flocks along the shoreline. As you descend, keep watch for buffalo, rhinos, and waterbuck grazing in the park’s open grasslands below.
Lake Nakuru National Park
Set in the heart of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru National Park is a breathtaking blend of dramatic landscapes, vibrant wildlife, and tranquil beauty. At its center lies the shimmering expanse of Lake Nakuru, a shallow alkaline lake famed for its dazzling flocks of flamingos that transform the shoreline into a sea of pink. The scene is ever-changing — one moment calm and reflective, the next alive with movement as thousands of birds rise into the sky in a spectacular swirl of color.
But Lake Nakuru is far more than a birder’s paradise. The surrounding park, though compact, is teeming with diverse wildlife. Black and white rhinos roam freely in one of Kenya’s most successful sanctuaries, while buffalo, zebras, waterbuck, and impalas graze across the open grasslands. Lions and leopards are often spotted resting in the fever trees or prowling the forest edge, and giraffes stride gracefully through the acacia woodland. The park’s rich birdlife — over 400 species — adds layers of sound and color, from pelicans and storks to the iridescent lilac-breasted roller.
Scenic viewpoints such as Baboon Cliff and Lion Hill offer sweeping vistas of the lake and the valley beyond, perfect for photography or quiet reflection. The contrast of turquoise water, pink flamingos, green acacia forest, and distant volcanic ridges creates one of the most visually stunning landscapes in East Africa.

Masai Mara
The Masai Mara — Kenya’s crown jewel of safari destinations — is where Africa’s raw beauty and untamed spirit come vividly to life. Here, every moment feels cinematic. The first rays of dawn reveal lions sprawled lazily on the open grasslands, their golden coats glowing in the soft light. Elephants move silently through the mist, their silhouettes majestic against the rising sun, while giraffes browse gracefully at the treetops. As the day warms, the plains come alive with zebras, gazelles, and wildebeest, their endless herds stretching to the horizon — a prelude to one of nature’s greatest spectacles: the Great Migration. Between July and October, more than two million wildebeest and zebra thunder across the Mara River, pursued by stealthy crocodiles and vigilant big cats, in a timeless display of survival and instinct that defines the very essence of Africa.
But the Mara’s magic extends beyond the migration. All year round, visitors are treated to extraordinary wildlife encounters — from cheetahs sprinting across the plains to leopards draped elegantly over fig tree branches, and rhinos grazing quietly in the thickets. Over 470 bird species, from lilac-breasted rollers to secretary birds, add flashes of color and sound to the landscape, making every game drive a feast for the senses.
Safari experiences in the Masai Mara are as diverse as the land itself. Guests can embark on thrilling game drives guided by expert Masai trackers, float silently over the plains in a hot air balloon as the sun rises, or enjoy an intimate bush breakfast overlooking the sweeping savannah. For a deeper connection, walking safaris and cultural visits to local Masai villages offer a glimpse into the traditions of one of Africa’s most iconic communities, whose deep respect for the land has helped preserve it for generations.

Angama Mara is a remarkable lodge set on the edge of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, overlooking the Mara Triangle. There is little that is conventional about the creation of Angama Mara, with views that stretch for miles across the Maasai Mara 300 meters below. Inspired by the Swahili word for ‘suspended in mid-air’, Angama Mara seems to float way up above the Maasai Mara where, every morning, hot air balloons sail past the 10-metre-wide floor-to-ceiling glass fronts of each tented suite. The lodge consists of two separate and intimate camps each of fifteen tented suites. High above the floor of Great Rift Valley, and balanced on its rim lies a beautiful piece of land that overlooks what many safari travellers deem the loveliest game reserve on the continent, Kenya’s Maasai Mara.
