Days 2 to 5: The Magnificent Masai Mara!

On Day 2 you will take an early morning flight to the amazing Masai Mara National Reserve. Our representative  will pick you up for transfer to the airport. Sit back and relax during this short flight from Nairobi to the Masai Mara. Approximate flight duration is 50 minutes. Your accommodations will be at the beautiful Angama Mara (or similar) lodge.

Please note, strict luggage restrictions apply to this flight: 1) Maximum weight allowance of 32 lbs (15 kg) is permitted per person. 2) Baggage must be soft-shelled. 3) Additional baggage allowance can be arranged at additional cost, please speak to your Destination Expert for more information.

Flight to Masai Mara

The flight from Nairobi to the Masai Mara is one of the most scenic and memorable journeys in Kenya. Departing from Wilson Airport, your plane soars over Nairobi National Park, where wildlife roams against the city skyline, before gliding westward across the lush Rift Valley highlands. Below, you’ll see Lake Naivasha’s shimmering waters dotted with hippos and fishing boats, and perhaps the pale pink shimmer of Lake Elementaita or Lake Nakuru in the distance. The terrain shifts dramatically — from green farmlands to rolling escarpments and vast acacia-dotted plains.

As the flight descends toward the Masai Mara,  the landscape transforms into a sweeping wilderness of golden  grasslands. You may spot herds of elephants, wildebeest, or zebras even  before you land. The small aircraft touches down on an airstrip,  greeted by our safari guides and the warm scent of the African savanna —  the adventure begins the moment your feet hit the red earth.

The Amazing Masai Mara!

The  Masai Mara — Kenya’s crown jewel of safari destinations — is where Africa’s raw beauty and untamed spirit come vividly to life. Here, every moment feels cinematic. The first rays of dawn reveal lions sprawled lazily on the open grasslands, their golden coats glowing in the soft light. Elephants move silently through the mist, their silhouettes majestic against the rising sun, while giraffes browse gracefully at the treetops.

As the day warms, the plains come alive with zebras, gazelles, and wildebeest, their endless herds stretching to the horizon — a prelude to one of nature’s greatest spectacles: the Great Migration. Between July and October, more than two million wildebeest and zebra thunder across the Mara River, pursued by stealthy crocodiles and vigilant big cats, in a timeless display of survival and instinct that defines the very essence of Africa.

But the Mara’s magic extends beyond the  migration. All year round, visitors are treated to extraordinary  wildlife encounters — from cheetahs sprinting across the plains to leopards draped elegantly over fig tree branches, and rhinos grazing quietly in the thickets. Over 470 bird species, from  lilac-breasted rollers to secretary birds, add flashes of color and  sound to the landscape, making every game drive a feast for the senses.

Safari experiences in the Masai Mara are as diverse as the land itself. Guests can embark on thrilling game drives guided by expert Masai trackers, float silently over the plains in a hot air balloon as the sun rises, or enjoy an intimate bush breakfast overlooking the sweeping savannah. For a deeper connection, walking safaris and cultural visits to local Masai villages offer a glimpse into the traditions of one of Africa’s most iconic  communities, whose deep respect for the land has helped preserve it for  generations.

Morning Tours

Morning game drives in the Masai Mara burst with life as the sun rises over the vast savannah. Here’s what you’re likely to encounter:

  • Lions lounging near riverbanks or open plains after a night of hunting.

  • Cheetahs perched on termite mounds, scanning the grasslands for early prey.

  • Large herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles grazing across the rolling plains.

  • Majestic elephants and towering Masai giraffes feeding on acacia trees.

  • Buffalo moving in groups through the grass, often shadowed by oxpeckers.

  • The occasional leopard retreating into the thickets after a night’s activity.

  • A dazzling variety of birdlife, from secretary birds striding through the grass to lilac-breasted rollers flashing their colors in the early light.

Here are some of our most recommended morning activities in and around the Masai Mara that make the most of the cool air and golden sunrise light:

  • Hot air balloon safari — Lift off just before sunrise and glide over the savannah as the first   light touches the plains, revealing herds of elephants, wildebeest,  and  giraffes below.

  • Guided bush walk — Explore on foot with a Maasai guide, learning to identify animal   tracks, plants, and birds while experiencing the landscape up close.

  • Birdwatching along the rivers and grasslands — The cooler hours draw out a remarkable variety of species, from   lilac-breasted rollers to crowned cranes and raptors taking flight.

  • Bush breakfast — Enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast set up in the wild, often   following your early game drive, surrounded by the sounds of the waking   savannah.

Afternoon Tours

Afternoon game drives in the Masai Mara offer a slower, more atmospheric experience as the heat softens and the savannah glows in golden light. Here’s what you’re likely to  encounter:

  • Elephants gathering at rivers and waterholes to drink and cool off.

  • Lions resting in the shade, occasionally stirring as the temperature drops toward evening.

  • Cheetahs becoming more active, using the lower sun and tall grass for cover while hunting.

  • Herds of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles moving lazily across the plains.

  • Hippos emerging near the Mara River and crocodiles basking along its banks.

  • Graceful Masai giraffes and topis silhouetted against the setting sun.

  • A sky alive with raptors, rollers, and hornbills catching the day’s final light.

Here are several excellent afternoon activity options in or near the Masai Mara National Reserve that complement a game drive and broaden your safari experience:

  • Hot air balloon safari at sunset — Soar above the plains in the later afternoon for panoramic views of wildlife and river crossings from the sky.

  • Walking safari in a nearby conservancy — After your vehicle drive, take a guided walk to explore the bush on   foot, see tracks, small animals, and learn about the ecosystem.

  • Maasai village cultural visit — Spend the later part of the afternoon visiting a local Maasai   community, learn about their traditions and crafts, and enjoy a   sundowner with views of the plains.

  • Sundowner viewpoint / scenic stop — As the day cools, drive to a high ridge or vantage point for twilight   photographs, drinks, and sweeping views across the Mara.

  • Bird‐watching and wetland viewing — Visit riverine areas or marshes in the afternoon to spot waterbirds, raptors, and wildlife gathering at the water’s edge.

Days 6 to 8: Tsavo National Park

On Day 5 you will take an early morning flight to the amazing Tsavo National Park. Our representative will pick you up for transfer to the airport. Sit back and relax during this short flight from the Masai Mara to the Tsavo National Park. Approximate flight duration is 1 hour 45 minutes. Your accommodations  will be at the amazing Finch Hattons Luxury Camp (or similar) lodge.

Flight to Tsavo National Park

A flight from Masai Mara to Tsavo National Park offers one of Kenya’s most captivating aerial journeys — a breathtaking  showcase of the country’s diverse landscapes, from lush savannahs to  volcanic plains.  The trip takes about 2 to 2.5 hours, with a short stop in Nairobi, and reveals the dramatic contrast between  Kenya’s ecosystems as you travel from the southwest to the southeast.

As you lift off from the airstrip, you’re immediately treated to sweeping views of golden grasslands dotted with acacia trees and winding rivers like the Mara and Talek. Herds of elephants, wildebeest, and zebra may  appear like moving shadows across the plains, while the dark shapes of  hippos can be spotted in the river bends below. Early morning flights  often reveal a soft mist hugging the valley floors, creating a dreamlike atmosphere over the savanna.

As the aircraft climbs eastward, the landscape softens into the fertile highlands, a region of green tea plantations, small farms, and rolling hills. On clear days, you might catch a glimpse of Mount Kenya’s snow-capped peaks,  Africa’s second-highest mountain, glistening above the clouds. The  transition from wilderness to cultivated countryside provides a  beautiful mid-journey contrast.

Descending into Tsavo East or Tsavo West, you’ll be greeted by a sweeping vista of endless wilderness, broken by rocky outcrops like the Yatta Plateau—one of the world’s longest lava flows—and the lush greenery of the Galana River. The red dust rising behind vehicles on game tracks hints that your next adventure is moments away.

Tsavo National Park

The  Tsavo National Park — Kenya’s wild frontier — is a land where nature still reigns supreme and wildlife roams in abundance. Spanning over  20,000 square kilometers, this vast wilderness is home to an astonishing  variety of animals, making it one of Africa’s greatest safari  destinations.

Across the open plains of Tsavo East, you’ll encounter the park’s famous red elephants, their rust-colored dust coats glowing in the sunlight as they move in large herds. Lions, buffalo, giraffes, and zebras roam freely across the savannah, while cheetahs patrol the grasslands in search of prey. Along the Galana River, you might spot hippos, crocodiles, and even the occasional leopard lounging in the shade of acacia trees.

In Tsavo West, the landscape shifts to rolling hills, lava flows, and natural springs alive with life. The crystal-clear waters of Mzima Springs provide a close-up view of hippos gliding underwater and crocodiles lurking beneath the surface. On the open plains, elephants, rhinos, and antelopes graze with Mount Kilimanjaro rising majestically in the distance. Bird enthusiasts will delight in spotting more than 500 species, from colorful bee-eaters to majestic eagles.

Morning Tours

A morning game drive in Tsavo East National Park captures the wild essence of Kenya. Here's what you're likely to encounter:

  • Golden Dawn on the Savannah: The first light paints the vast plains in shades of gold and red as wildlife stirs to life.

  • Red Elephants: Large herds of Tsavo’s iconic red-dusted elephants emerge from the morning mist, moving gracefully across the open plains.

  • Grazing Herbivores: Zebras, giraffes, impalas, and grant’s gazelles feed on the fresh morning grass, creating classic safari scenes.

  • Predator Encounters: Lions are often seen returning from their nighttime hunts, while cheetahs scan the horizon from termite mounds, and the occasional leopard slips through the acacia thickets.

  • River Life: Along the Galana River, hippos wallow in shallow pools and crocodiles sun themselves on the banks.

  • Birdlife in Abundance: The air fills with color and sound — hornbills, lilac-breasted rollers, eagles, and countless other birds add vibrancy to the morning.

  • Family Sightings: Troops of baboons and vervet monkeys play along the roadside, providing lively moments between big game encounters.

  • Peaceful Finale: As the sun climbs higher, elephants gather at waterholes and the plains  shimmer in the growing heat — a serene end to a classic African  morning.

Afternoon Tours

An afternoon safari in Tsavo East is a perfect blend of color, calm, and anticipation — the wilderness  preparing for the night ahead. Here's what you're likely to encounter:

  • Golden Afternoon Light: As the midday heat softens, the landscape glows in warm, amber tones — perfect for photography and peaceful wildlife viewing.

  • Elephants at Waterholes: Tsavo’s famous red elephants gather in large herds to drink, bathe, and play, often coating themselves in the park’s rust-colored dust.

  • Grazing Plains: Zebras, buffalo, and giraffes move slowly across the savannah, while warthogs and gazelles feed in the fading light.

  • Predators Awaken: Lions begin to stir from their daytime rest, stretching and preparing for the evening hunt. Occasionally, a cheetah or leopard may appear, taking advantage of the cooling air to patrol the plains.

  • Riverside Wildlife: Along the Galana River, hippos emerge from the water, and crocodiles bask lazily on the riverbanks as the day winds down.

  • Birdlife on the Move: Afternoon thermals lift eagles and vultures high overhead, while rollers, kingfishers, and starlings flash vibrant colors in the slanting sun.

  • Scenic Sunsets: As the sun dips toward the horizon, the sky ignites with fiery oranges  and purples, silhouetting acacia trees and elephants against the glowing  light.

  • Evening Calm: The park settles into a tranquil rhythm — the distant roar of a lion or  the trumpet of an elephant marking the close of another day in the  wild.

Days 9 to 14: Seychelles Island Paradise!

On Day 8 you will take an early morning flight to Seychelles. Our representative will pick you up for private transfer to the airport. Sit back and relax during your flight from Masai Mara National Park to Seychelles. Approximate trip duration is about 4 hrs and 30 minutes. Your accommodations will be at the amazing Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island (or similar).

Flight to Seychelles

A trip from Tsavo West National Park to the Seychelles begins with a short flight—about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Shortly after takeoff, you rise above Tsavo West’s rugged, rust-red wilderness, where volcanic hills, ancient lava flows, and dry riverbeds shape the landscape. From the air, you may spot wildlife moving across the open plains, with the deep green ridges of the Chyulu Hills stretching to the north.

As the aircraft heads toward Nairobi, the scenery gradually shifts from semi-arid savannah to greener, cultivated lands. Rolling hills, farms, and small rural towns begin to appear, eventually giving way to the expanding urban outskirts of the capital. After landing in Nairobi for your transfer, the journey continues on a longer international leg toward the coast, where the highlands flatten into low-lying mangrove-lined shores and river estuaries.

The flight from Nairobi to the Seychelles—typically about 3.5 hours—opens into the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean. Deep blue waters slowly lighten into bright turquoise shallows as coral reefs, sandbars, and shallow lagoons come into view. Approaching Mahé, the Seychelles reveal lush green mountains, palm-fringed beaches, and sparkling island bays. The descent offers a final panoramic sweep of tropical forests, granite peaks, and nearby emerald islands—an unforgettable contrast to the rugged wilderness of Tsavo West.

The Seychelles

The Seychelles — a paradise so stunning it feels like a dream. Floating in the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, this archipelago of 115 islands is a masterpiece of natural beauty, where soft white sands meet crystal-clear lagoons and lush tropical forests rise from the sea. Every island offers its own slice of magic: from the granite boulders and world-famous beaches of Mahé and Praslin, to the untouched serenity of La Digue and the private sanctuaries scattered across the outer islands.

Here, time slows down. Spend your days snorkeling among vibrant coral reefs, sailing between islands, or hiking through palm-covered trails that open to breathtaking ocean views. Encounter rare wildlife like the Aldabra giant tortoise, wander through spice gardens, or simply unwind with a cocktail as the sun sets in a blaze of color over the water.

Luxury blends effortlessly with authenticity — elegant resorts, barefoot beaches, and the warm smiles of the Seychellois people create an atmosphere of pure tranquility. Whether you seek romance, relaxation, or adventure, the Seychelles promises an escape unlike any other — a place where nature still reigns and every moment feels timeless.

~Angama Mara~

Angama Mara

Angama Mara is a remarkable lodge set on the edge of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, overlooking the Mara Triangle. There is little that is conventional about the creation of Angama Mara, with views that stretch for miles across the Maasai Mara 300 meters below. Inspired by the Swahili word for ‘suspended in mid-air’, Angama Mara seems to float way up above the Maasai Mara where, every morning, hot air balloons sail past the 10-metre-wide floor-to-ceiling glass fronts of each tented suite. The lodge consists of two separate and intimate camps each of fifteen tented suites. High above the floor of Great Rift Valley, and balanced on its rim lies a beautiful piece of land that overlooks what many safari travellers deem the loveliest game reserve on the continent, Kenya’s Maasai Mara.
