~classic Kenyan Safari~

Day 1 - Get In and Get Some Rest!

Upon your arrival at the airport an English-speaking Explore-Kenya representative will greet you at customs and immigration. The representative will also facilitate the visa process for you if you need assistance. After completing the visa process, you will continue  to the baggage claim hall and passenger pick up. Here you will be met by our driver for a private transfer to your hotel.

After arriving at your hotel and settling in, there will be a short meet and greet. At that time we will have welcome remarks, review the itinerary, answer any questions and prepare for day two. Once a quiet residential area, it’s now home to major banks, embassies, and global firms, yet still framed by leafy avenues and panoramic city views. With its vibrant mix of business, upscale dining, and cosmopolitan energy, Upper Hill captures the pulse of Nairobi’s new urban elegance.

Day 2 - City Safari

Meet your safari guide this morning and set out on a game drive in Nairobi National Park. Kenya's oldest national park located just outside the city center is home to healthy populations of White and Black Rhino, Giraffe, Cheetah, Lion and Buffalo. During the morning hours, many  animals are just beginning their daily activities and this provides for  outstanding viewing and photography opportunities.

A truly unique safari experience awaits you at Nairobi National Park. Set close to the city limits, this wildlife reserve offers you an opportunity to get close to African wildlife while enjoying the backdrop of Nairobi’s skyline in the distance. With your private guide by your side you will traverse the wide-open grass plains of the reserve in search of game sightings. The resident species include giraffe, black rhino, lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, and hyena.

You will also take a trip to the Giraffe Center to learn about the world’s tallest terrestrial animal and to see these wonderful creatures up close and, if you so choose, to feed them by hand! After the Giraffe Center, visit  the Karen Blixen Museum – a home once lived in by Karen – and made famous in the film “Out of Africa” featuring Meryl Streep and Robert Redford (consider watching the movie before setting out on your trip). After exploring this landmark, head to Kazuri Beads. An all-woman craft  workshop renowned for making handmade ceramic jewelry and pottery,  Kazuri – which means “small and beautiful” in Swahili – is a co-operative enterprise founded decades ago by an English woman who wanted to help single mothers become self-supporting. The clay beads,  jewelry and pottery are as amazing as the story of its people, making Kazuri Beads the perfect place to round out your day in Nairobi.

Days 3 to 4: Ol Pejeta Conservancy

On Day 3 you will take an early morning flight to the beautiful Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Our representative  will pick you up for transfer to the airport. Sit back and relax during  this short flight from Nairobi to the Masai Mara. Approximate flight  duration is 45 minutes. Your accommodations will be at the Sweetwaters Serena lodge.

Please note, strict luggage restrictions apply to this flight: 1)   Maximum weight allowance of 32 lbs (15 kg) is permitted per person. 2)   Baggage must be soft-shelled. 3) Additional baggage allowance can be   arranged at additional cost, please speak to your Destination Expert  for  more information.

Flight to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy

The flight from Nairobi to Ol Pejeta Conservancy takes about 45 minutes, offering a breathtaking aerial journey over some of Kenya’s most captivating landscapes. Departing from Wilson Airport, the plane ascends over the bustling capital, where the city’s skyline soon gives way to the lush green of the central highlands. As you head north, the terrain unfolds into a patchwork of coffee and tea plantations, glistening in the morning light. The air becomes clearer, cooler, and the horizon expands toward the majestic Mount Kenya, its snow-dusted peaks rising dramatically above the clouds.

Below, the rolling Laikipia Plateau stretches endlessly — a mosaic of acacia-dotted plains, winding rivers, and hidden wildlife sanctuaries. From the window, you might glimpse herds of elephants or giraffes wandering across open grasslands, tiny specks against the vast wilderness. The aircraft begins its descent over Ol Pejeta, revealing the Ewaso Nyiro River curving through the conservancy and the golden plains that are home to rhinos, lions, and other iconic species.

The  Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Nestled between the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya and the rolling plains of Laikipia, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy stands as one of Africa’s most inspiring wildlife sanctuaries — a place where conservation, adventure, and natural beauty come together in perfect harmony.

Home to the largest black rhino population in East Africa and the last two northern white rhinos on Earth, Ol Pejeta is more than a safari destination — it’s a living story of hope and protection for endangered species. Within its 90,000-acre expanse roam the Big Five, alongside cheetahs, wild dogs, and an astonishing diversity of birds and plains game.

Morning game drives reveal a world coming to life in golden light — elephants crossing the savannah, lions on the move, and giraffes silhouetted against the rising sun. As the day unfolds, visitors can walk with rangers on guided safaris, visit the Sweetwaters

Chimpanzee Sanctuary, or learn about groundbreaking conservation efforts that blend wildlife protection with community empowerment.

By afternoon, the conservancy glows under a warm amber sky — the perfect time for a tranquil game drive, a rhino-tracking adventure, or a sundowner overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River. Whether you come for the wildlife, the scenery, or the story of preservation that defines it, Ol Pejeta Conservancy offers a safari experience that touches both the heart and the imagination — wild, authentic, and deeply meaningful.

On Day 5 you will take an early morning flight to the amazing Lake Nakuru National Park. Our representative will pick you up for transfer to the airport. Sit back and relax during  this short flight from Nairobi to the Masai Mara. Approximate flight  duration is 45 minutes. Your accommodations will be at the luxury Mbweha Camp lodge.

Flight to Lake Nakuru National Park

The flight from Ol Pejeta Conservancy to Lake Nakuru National Park is a breathtaking short hop — typically about 45 minutes — that showcases some of Kenya’s most spectacular scenery from above.

Departing from Ol Pejeta’s airstrip near Mount Kenya, the plane climbs gently over the conservancy’s sweeping plains, offering a final glimpse of elephants, rhinos, and giraffes moving across the golden savannah. As you ascend, the majestic snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya dominate the eastern skyline, glowing brilliantly in the morning light.

The flight then turns westward, crossing the patchwork farmlands and rolling highlands of central Kenya. Below, you’ll see scattered villages and lush coffee and tea estates before the land suddenly falls away into the dramatic depths of the Great Rift Valley. From this bird’s-eye view, the landscape is a natural wonder — ancient escarpments, volcanic ridges, and shimmering lakes stretching toward the horizon.

Soon, the emerald-green forests surrounding Lake Nakuru come into sight, and the lake itself appears — a brilliant mirror of blue and pink, where flamingos gather in sweeping flocks along the shoreline. As you descend, keep watch for buffalo, rhinos, and waterbuck grazing in the park’s open grasslands below.

Lake Nakuru National Park

Set in the heart of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru National Park is a breathtaking blend of dramatic landscapes, vibrant wildlife, and tranquil beauty. At its center lies the shimmering expanse of Lake Nakuru, a shallow alkaline lake famed for its dazzling flocks of flamingos that transform the shoreline into a sea of pink. The scene is ever-changing — one moment calm and reflective, the next alive with movement as thousands of birds rise into the sky in a spectacular swirl of color.

But Lake Nakuru is far more than a birder’s paradise. The surrounding park, though compact, is teeming with diverse wildlife. Black and white rhinos roam freely in one of Kenya’s most successful sanctuaries, while buffalo, zebras, waterbuck, and impalas graze across the open grasslands. Lions and leopards are often spotted resting in the fever trees or prowling the forest edge, and giraffes stride gracefully through the acacia woodland. The park’s rich birdlife — over 400 species — adds layers of sound and color, from pelicans and storks to the iridescent lilac-breasted roller.

Scenic viewpoints such as Baboon Cliff and Lion Hill offer sweeping vistas of the lake and the valley beyond, perfect for photography or quiet reflection. The contrast of turquoise water, pink flamingos, green acacia forest, and distant volcanic ridges creates one of the most visually stunning landscapes in East Africa.
